The Monode Model 311 Power Supply and Hand Marking Etch has often been specified for deep etch marking on aircraft and aerospace parts. Capable of marking more than .006 inch deep on most substrates the Monode deep marking process is safe, legible and, most importantly, low stress.
This low stress but permanent mark is a cost effective way to mark a wide range of metal parts both flat and round. The process is simple, the power unit delivers AC or DC current to the marking head which is covered with a pad saturated with one of several electrolytes. The part is grounded to the red lead by a clip or any convenient method.
A stencil, having apertures forming the legend, is placed between the part and the marking head pad. The flow of electrical current and the electrolyte through the stencil aperture result in the removal of metallic ions from the part surface (and redeposit of metal oxide when using AC) leaving a legible mark.
